What WeBuyMiles does
WeBuyMiles buys airline miles and credit card points for cash. You transfer points from your account, they pay out by bank transfer or crypto, usually within an hour.
Why resellers end up with points
If you are sourcing at volume on a rewards card, you accumulate points fast. Someone putting £5,000 a month through an Amex is earning meaningful points on spend they were making anyway.
The catch is that points are only worth something if you use them. Most resellers are not taking enough flights to burn a large balance, and points sitting unused are dead capital. Selling them converts that back into working capital you can put into stock.
What to work out first
Points have different values depending on how they are redeemed. Transferring to an airline partner and booking a premium cabin usually gets you more per point than a cash sale does. Selling makes sense when you would not realistically use them, or when cash into stock earns you more than the flight would have saved you.
Work out your own number before you sell. If your capital turns over profitably every few weeks, cash now may well beat a flight in eighteen months. If you fly regularly, it may not.
Read your card terms first
This is the important part and it is your responsibility, not theirs.
Most rewards programmes prohibit selling, bartering or transferring points outside the terms of the programme. Enforcement varies and is at the issuer's discretion, but the consequences where it is enforced can include forfeiting your points balance, closing the account, or being blocked from that issuer's products in future. Losing an Amex you use for sourcing is a bigger problem than the value of the points.
Read your own card's terms and decide with that in front of you.
Also worth knowing
Putting business purchasing through a personal rewards card, or vice versa, has bookkeeping and possibly tax implications if you are trading through a limited company. Worth a word with your accountant if that describes you.
Cash received for points may be taxable depending on your circumstances. Same advice.
